March Favourites

Tuesday, 1 April 2014

Dear fellow nomads,

March has whizzed right past me in a whirlwind and as such, I'm a little light on the ground for favourites this month. So this will be a quick post!

Garnier BB cream Miracle Skin Perfector for Combination to Oily Skin in Light

Another base with a ridiculously long name - why can't they be snappy for once? Anyway... Onto the product! This is a fairly thin, hydrating BB cream we have here from Garnier. The formula promises 5 'solutions' including anti-shine, pore and imperfection blurring, tone evening and glow boosting, moisturising and finally an SPF of 20. That's quite some list! Even though my skin is more dry than oily, I still find this product works nicely for me. The colour matches my skin quite well, and stays all day without settling into the dry patches on my face or going orange. It gives a light coverage which I personally like, and I apply mine with a duofibre Ecotools brush for best results. This has been giving me a more even complexion when the ravages of winter have taken their toll on my face, and I particularly like that they have included a fairly high SPF, which you don't always find in a BB cream.

Essie Nourish Me base coat

I bought this base coat because my old one ran out, and my nails have been a complete state coming out of winter. They are peeling horrifically and something had to be done - this formula promises to combat that specifically.  I've been using this all month, either as a base coat underneath a colour or alone for a nice shine to my nails (and to give them a break). I think it’s working a bit, but the jury is out on whether it’s the miracle cure I've been looking for. That aside, I really like it because it’s easy to apply and dries very quickly. If you are wearing it alone, do be aware that it carries a slight tint of blue so if you use 2 coats then you can look like you have very chilly fingers.

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat

I've had this product for quite some time but I have been relying on its brightening and lightening properties heavily recently. This does a great job of lightening my dreaded under eye dark circles and makes me look a bit more peppy and with it when I feel anything but. I like that it has a light formula which blends well into my skin and doesn't drag the skin or clump when blending. I can also use it as a highlight down my nose or across my forehead when times get really tough. Aside from that, I love the packaging and it feels like a little bit of luxury in my morning routine.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey

I bought this on a recent trip to Boots and I posted a sneaky haul here. I've been using this almost every day since - as I wrote in the post, this isn't a shade I would have even swatched if it weren't for a recommendation on good old YouTube. It's a pinky-mauve colour, if I were pushed to describe it, but I'm horrible at describing colours so I'd recommend swatching it yourself! This translates on my lips to a slightly darker nude, perfectly work-appropriate yet adds interest to a face. Despite being a fan of all things minty, I initially wasn't too keen on the peppermint scent or the resulting tingle on the lips (especially not if it's stupid o'clock in the morning) but I'm gradually getting used to it. I found this product lasted an extremely long time on my lips, and for a whole day at work only needs a little touch up after lunch, regardless of plenty of drinking etc. It also didn't dry out my lips particularly. I am sold on this range and can't wait to try more shades.

Nuxe Rêve de Miel lip balm

This is in a whole other league of lip balms - no wonder bloggers rave about it so much! I picked this up last year on a trip to City Pharma in Paris, and I was initially a bit outrandomed by this. It had been raved about so much, but when I got it back to our apartment and tried it out, it was just so... thick. And a bit grainy. And you have to put it on with your fingers which I don't really like. But this moisturises your lips like nothing else, and the staying power is immense. I don't leave the house without lip balm because my lips are so dry, and have to reapply it numerous times throughout the day. But this lip balm just stays welded to my lips for hours, it's amazing! My lips feel so much better after I use it. Because it is so thick, I find it can sometimes interfere with lip colour so I tend to wear this one overnight as a kind of intensive treatment.

Sleek blush in Crochet

This is part of the Blush By 3 palette in Lace which I've had for a little while. I reviewed it here and was, quite frankly, still a bit terrified of the shade when I wrote the review. However, one day shortly after I decided to just go for it and it's been love ever since. Now, I do sheer this out pretty majorly to avoid clown face, but it just looks so pretty for the spring time and manages to bring a bit of life to my face. I also like it because I have some redness in my face naturally, and I seem to always be blushing, so sometimes I don't like blushes which have reddish undertones because I think it brings out my own redness, if that makes sense. This, being an orange, doesn't have that problem so I don't end up looking like a big red blob. Always a good thing.

Triple J app

Triple J, an Australian radio channel which I quite like, recently brought out their own app. Previously, I'd always listened to the station in real-time on my TuneIn Radio app, which worked fine. However, being in the UK, I usually miss the better shows and end up tuning in to the slightly strange late night stuff. Then came along the Triple J app, which crucially contains on demand shows as well as the ability to listen live. This means I can catch up with some of my favourite shows, like Sunday Night Safran and Hack. I like to listen to Hack when I'm getting ready in the morning, and it lasts for about the length of time that I need to get everything done. I like keeping up with foreign affairs and this is a great way to do so, whilst also providing a handy timer of when I need to get out of the door!

Well, after thinking I didn't have much to talk about this month this has turned into a bit of a long one. I hope you enjoyed it, and your March in general - what were your favourites last month?

-Rachel
