Mini Review Mondays: Elizabeth Arden Advanced Eye Fix Primer

Monday, 3 March 2014

Hi fellow nomads,

Ever in search of the perfect crease-free eye, I recently came across the Advanced Eye Fix Primer from Elizabeth Arden in my local TK Maxx and so of course I just had to try it. For blog research purposes, obvs.

The outer box looks just like your standard Elizabeth Arden product and inside there’s a small tube of primer. It’s a squeezy tube, no doe foot applicators here – which I’m very glad about. It comes out with a pretty thick texture, very similar to my Urban Decay Primer Potion but ever so slightly thicker, and is slightly more opaque.

Initially I didn’t hold out high hopes for this, because I haven’t yet found an eye primer that I like as much as my Urban Decay Primer Potion (not Smashbox, not quite Too Faced although it comes a very close second). Initially I found the formula a little tricky, because you only need a tiny amount to get full coverage of your eyelids and I kept putting on too much. Also, it is such a thick formula that it can sometimes drag on the eyelids a little. And then it does take slightly longer than I’m used to to set so you can start applying eyeshadows.

However, that said, once I got used to applying a tiny amount and blending gently, I was really impressed. This stuff is impervious; my eyelids are pretty prone to creasing (despite having dry skin – what’s going on there?!) and this did not budge all day. It still felt resolutely matte even after over 12 hours of wear, and I think it could probably tackle the oiliest of eyelids with no problems. So I was very pleased with the outcome of my trial, and I felt sorry that I had been sceptical in the first place.

You get 7.5ml in this tube, which didn’t seem much at the time but, as I found out, a little goes a long way and actually it makes it a great size for travelling. I got it for £7.99 and the RRP is £20. I think that considering this is cheaper than the Urban Decay Primer Potion, which is about £20 for 11ml (making it £1.81 per ml approx., compared to Elizabeth Arden which is about £1.06 per ml) and I think I need to use a little less of the Elizabeth Arden, this represents a good value purchase and should I see it at a similar price again, I would definitely snap it up. If you are interested you can find it at Boots here and John Lewis here for the full price of £20.

Have you tried any Elizabeth Arden make up products? What did you think?
