A Complete Basket Face #1

Thursday, 11 September 2014

Hi fellow nomads,

So I introduced you to my basket face last week and this week, I'm here to tell you how I've fared with the contents. Without further ado, here are my thoughts on each product, in order from most loved to least loved…

Stila In The Light eyeshadow palette // This week’s star of the show, this palette is brand new to me and I can’t believe I put off buying it for so long. The colours are so beautiful and the pigment is quite impressive.  I also really like the mini lookbook they include with the palette – it’s actually quite helpful. The only downside is that I don’t think they’re as long lasting as some other shadows out there, but overall I've loved using this this week.

HD Brows Browtec, Brow Powder and Browfix // I'm continuing my brow kick by gently incorporating this Browfix gel into my safe Browtec and powder routine (described here). The gel gets a bit tricky if you have any tiny hairs outside your actual eyebrow, because this will pick them up and turn them dark brown. This is great if you have sparse brows, but it can be a nightmare if you've left your latest threading appointment a bit late. It does give a good tint to the brows and sets them solid, so on the whole I've enjoyed this this week.

Rimmel Lasting Finish By Kate Lipstick in 01 // Eeek a bold red lip. This is completely new territory for me but I'm kind of loving it. This isn't work appropriate for me, but I've been wearing out in the evenings and totally loving it. I do need to keep reapplying this as it’s not super long lasting, nonetheless I've enjoyed it so much that I'm planning on wearing it to my fancy work do next week.

Eyeko lash curlers // Having recently realised that curling my lashes does actually make a difference, you’ll be hard pressed to tear me away from these little beauties. These seem pretty effective and I like the blue velvet handles.

MAC Beauty Powder in Tahitian Sand // This was in my favourites last month and I tried to wean myself off it for the sake of this basket but honestly, I couldn’t. It just gives such a lovely invisible finish to my skin that I can’t bear to be parted from it. Next week…

Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara // The same thing is going on with my Clinique Bottom Lash mascara. It does such a great job and I don’t have anything else like it in my stash so it’s going to be a permanent fix in my basket until that changes.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara // This is coming to the end of its life so I'm using up the last dregs all at once. It’s a great mascara and I rambled on about it in my favourites here.

Too Cool For School Dinoplatz CC Cream // Courtesy of a recent Memebox, this CC cream is light and delicate but covers all I need it to. It’s nice and hydrating and excuse me, it has a dinosaur on it. What more could you want? This is making me even more excited for my trip to Korea at the end of the year.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance // A great primer, I've been using this every day and enjoying it immensely. Not much more to say about this unless you’d like to read my primer roundup here.

Banila co Friday Night Highlighter // This has been a firm favourite for a while. I love the cool toned iridescence, and the fact that it’s not spangly. The brush it comes with is fantastic for giving some shape to the face and overall this is a fabulous highlighting experience.

YSL Touche Éclat // I've got fairly serious under eye circles and this is one of a few products I use to combat them. However this week I've had quite dry skin under my eyes which it hasn't liked, so I haven’t found myself reaching for it regularly.

NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray // Another product which I was unconvinced did anything, I'm still on the fence. However, after using this I think my makeup looks a little bit more polished. Maybe?

O& Easy Brush Liner // I really love this liquid liner; it’s got a felt tip end that gives a super precise line and it’s immovable once applied. However, it’s not a look I've been wearing this week so I haven’t used this at all.

Until next time, basket of joy.

-Rachel
