Mini Review Mondays – No7 Stay Perfect Shade and Define eyeshadow sticks

Monday, 1 September 2014

Hi fellow nomads,

Ok first I’d like to declare a moratorium on excessively long and meaningless product names. “No7 Stay Perfect Shade and Define”? What does that even mean?! Anyway, today I will be politely ignoring the unhelpful name of this eyeshadow stick, and letting you know how I got on with it.

I have two shades;

Cool Mink // a cool toned brown-taupe with a fair amount of shimmer. It’s not obnoxiously glittery, but it’s just on the edge of acceptability for a daytime work look, for me.

Glistening Ray // a champagne coloured highlight and it's pretty spangly. I use this to brighten up an eye look or add a bit of sparkle to make my eye makeup evening appropriate.

It’s a twist up pen situation, with a nice pointy tip for precise application (until you wear yours away by using it... see below). I've been using Cool Mink by applying first along the lashline, then blending up onto my eyelids using my fingers (brushes were a lost cause) which gave a subtle wash of colour and shimmer. I then redefined the lashline with the pointier bit. If I’m feeling daring, I’ll take it underneath the lashline too. It applies smoothly and is fairly blendable, but sets fairly quickly so you need to move fast.

I tried wearing the product without a primer at first, and while there was a hint of colour still left on my eyelids at the end of the day, most had faded by about lunchtime. I do, however, have exceptionally oily eyelids so there’s that. When worn with a primer, wear was more long lasting and I got through the best part of a long day with no fading.

As you can see from the picture above, the shade with the most use is Cool Mink. That's because I bought it first, but also because it's more of a wearable, everyday shade. It gives a really natural look, and it’s also super quick and easy to do as you’re running out of the door in the morning. The shade is so subtle that you can’t really go wrong with placement – just whack it on, blend away and you’re all set.

I think this is great for those of us who a) are in a hurry in the morning, b) don’t like to wear obvious eyeshadow or c) like a one-stop-product for the eyes that does everything pretty well.

Some of the other shades in the range, of which there are 8, are a bit more on the sparkly side so do swatch carefully before you make a selection if glitter is a factor that matters to you - although there's also a completely matte brown to balance things out a little.

The  No7 Stay Perfect Shade and Define (ahem) is £8 from Boots, and is frequently included in a 3 for 2, voucher promotion, or gift with purchase offer. In fact, the infamous No7 vouchers are back in stores now, which give £3 off makeup. No7 is also currently on buy one get one half price, so in theory you could get two shades for £9. Bargain!

Have you tried this eyeshadow stick? What did you think?
